What is Collab?

Collab is a tool created by Songcamp that allows you to create and coordinate collaborations with musicians over the internet. Discover other musicians in the network, suggest collabs, accept collabs you’re invited to, and release the resulting music you make together as an NFT. The revenue you earn from collectors minting your work is split onchain between you and the other collaborators of that song.

How do I create a Collab?

Find musicians you like by exploring the Artists feed, check out their music and social media pages. Navigate to Create Collab, or hit the “+” sign at the top of the page. Use the dropdown menus to choose the 3 artists you’d like to add to a Collab. You can include yourself as one of the collaborators, but you don’t have to. You can also suggest Collabs with 3 artists other than yourself.

Can I create a Collab with more (or less) than 3 collaborators?

For now, all Collabs must contain exactly 3 collaborators. If you’d like to see this feature updated to allow for Collabs of different sizes, please email [email protected] with what it is you’d like to do.

Who can create and/or participate in Collabs?

Anyone with a user account on the app can create and/or participate in Collabs. You can create Collabs with yourself included as one of the artists, or with yourself excluded. You would do this if you’d like to suggest a Collab of 3 musicians other than yourself that you’d like to see work together.

I’ve created a Collab. Now what?

Once you create a Collab, all 3 musicians must Accept the Collab for it to become activated. If you are one of the 3 musicians in the Collab, then navigate to your profile and hit “In Production” → “Pending Approval” to Approve the Collab. If you’ve already done that, or if you’re not a participant of the Collab, you can copy the pending Collab’s URL and share it with the musicians involved.

I’ve accepted a Collab. Now what?

All 3 musicians must Accept the Collab for it to become activated. If 1 or more musicians have not yet Accepted, copy the Collab’s link to share it with them. If all 3 have Accepted the Collab, then the Collab dashboard will be activated.

All 3 musicians have accepted the Collab. Now what?

The Collab dashboard shows the 3 participants, the % split, and submission fields for your song’s Title and Audio File. There is also a countdown at the top of the page for the next Release Window. Songs submitted before the countdown ends will be released on the next upcoming Release Date.

How do I communicate with the other musicians in my Collab?

For now, communication must be done on other platforms. Navigate to your collaborators’ profiles and click on their social media links to message them and coordinate the best place for you 3 to stay in touch and work with one another.
